We Are DC

The DC Metro buses are unleashing new rides that may be coming by your neighborhood or work sites next month. About 22 buses will be rolling of the Metro lot but it is not known what routes they will be taking. This is a big step towards improving the way people in the district travel. Metro completes almost 400,000 trips each day. With that many stops citizens have made complaints about the Metro’s conditions such as its lack of seating and safety.

The very first match by the Washington Kastles was played on the 4th of July, at a tennis center built on the old D.C. Convention Center grounds, against the Philadelphia Freedoms. The result was a 23-19 win and it marked the rise of the Kastles in World Team Tennis. The Kastles looked to be a force to be reckoned with after having a record of 5-5 after there first 10 games. That was followed with a 1-3, season ending win against the St. Louis Aces: 22-17. It was also a good experience for DC to experience world class tennis on a daily basis. Not only did the Kastles bring awareness to local tennis, by awarding Spike Henry with the coach of the year award in DC, but they brought other tennis greats to the area.

ix Flags is an Amusement Park located in Maryland. Six Flags contains different parks and rides consisting of Theme Parks, Water Parks, Animal Parks, Thrill Rides, Water Rides, Family Rides, and Kids Rides. Six Flags Has lots of things to offer other than parks and rides they have food, shows, performances, games, and events. One of the recent amazing events that will take place is Thursday July 31, 2008 is Vanessa Hudgens from High School Musical will perform at six flags. Raven Symone will also be performing sometime this summer. Six Flags is well-known for its wild, fun, and ridiculously crazy rollercoaster rides. Six flags also have great souvenirs which are definitely worth buying and keeping.

GoGo music originated in Washington D.C. area during the mid to late 1970s. A handful of bands contributed to the genre. Chuck Brown is credited for developing the most hallmark style. GoGo has an essential characteristic which is characterized by the accent and the strong beat. GoGo is played with bass drum, snare drum, conga drum, etc. just to name a few. GoGo bands have seen little success outside of Washington DC, but GoGo style lives on and still continues to grow.

The church also has different ministries for everyone to be in. For the youth there is have the youth ministry, and it consists of the president, vice president, second vice president, treasurer, and the chapin, who calls order in meetings. We as a group go into the community and do ministry work. We also do activities such as go to the movies, concerts, skating etc

IS HIP-HOP REALLY THE CAUSE OF VIOLENCE ? Thats a question that everyone has an answer for. In today’s young generation, people are influenced by what is going on in the world and on their TVs. Young people believe that if someone acts one way they should too, but not all people think like that. Some think that hip-hop is the reason for the way people act.

Trees are very important for our survival on this planet. As we all know we can breathe better because of them. Life can be very hard without trees. For this there is an organization called Casey trees in DC and offering a rebate of up to $ 50 to individuals who plant trees on their private property. Sometimes we forget what trees do for us but our life is highly dependent on trees.

The Barbecue Battle is an event that takes place in D.C every year. Some of the sponsors are Honda, SunTrust, D.C Lottery, Safeway, and WKYS 93.9. The festival is entertaining with lots of performances, food, and contests. Most really enjoy The Barbecue Battle because it has a lot to offer as far as activities and prizes. The Washington National Opera Company will be beginning their 2008-2009 Officially, as of September 13, 2008. The first show, La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi, will open on this date opening the entire season. This show of undying love is a perfect pick.

Peaceful Warriors is a demo team that promotes non-violence in the community. It was created by Lauren Wheeler after she was inspired by a group called Destiny Arts. It consists of males and females, from the ages 13 to 19, ranging from yellow belts to black belts in Tae-Kwan Do. They go about in the neighborhood and do self-defense workshops and performances at festivals, community centers, seminars, and other meaningful events.

On Tuesday, July 22, 2008, the Cathedral Scholars held their annual open house for the participants’ parents, supervisors, and other cathedral staff. During the open house the observers came and sat in on two classes of the scholars. In Participatory Media there was a group of observers who learned a little about the class and their online newspaper called We Are DC. The visitors even participated in an interview about the District which will be used in an article on the online newspaper.

The Tenley-Friendship Library was located on what is now an empty lot on Wisconsin Avenue and Albemarle Street. The library was located right next to Janney Elementary School and across the street from the Tenleytown Metro. It was somewhere to go after school, use a computer, read a book, but it was closed in 2004.

Tennis is a sport that, why it looks easy, is very difficult to play. In order to play tennis you have to have 3 important tools, they are foot work mental toughness and shot. The first and most important of these three are the shots. Shots reefers to the strokes that tennis players all over the world practice over and over again. They’re three strokes, the forehand, backhand, and the serve.

District of Columbia public are schools are starting to become more attentive then usual about the uniform policy. The school that I have been attending for almost three years, Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School, will now be introducing their uniform policy. Being informed of this as DCPS student is very much an eye opener. Having discovered my new-found interest in this subject I conducted some research, and I also asked people their point of view on this subject matter.
